Individual Case Study
Philosophical Problem: Brenda is a well known, successful, and highly regarded artist that believed that there are distinctions between good art and bad art. Many of her associates, on the other hand, believed that art is completely subjective, and though she felt sure that this was not true, she had very little defense against such assertions.
Resolution: Brenda learned that many great thinkers have addressed her philosophy of art questions. She became familiar with the arguments and counter-arguments to develop her own thinking on the topic.
Life Impact: Brenda challenged herself to think with some of the greatest thinkers in history, and, as a result, she exercised her mind and developed her mental muscles. Just as importantly, she developed her belief in her ability to challenge herself in similar ways in the future. To top it all off, she met her initial goal of developing a philosophy of art that she can confidently defend.
